The Club Year
This usually starts on the nearest Sunday to St George’s Day (23 April) with a club drive, an informal competition between members, and closes in late September again with a club drive. The club drives always finish with a light buffet meal provided by the members.
During the year there are matches against other clubs most weekends and club drives every Bank Holiday. The club also takes part in external competitions and is a member of different local leagues i.e. The LX league for men over 60, North West Kent League (men’s and women’s) and the Women’s Jubilee League. Some members also play for the BB&DBA (Beckenham, Bromley and District Bowling Association). Most of these matches take place during the week.
The Club nights are Tuesday and Friday evenings from 5.30pm, where members play roll ups and later in the season, a Friday night triples competition. The invitation candle light competition makes a particularly enjoyable Friday evening. There is also a full range of internal competitions.
The green is closed for play from late September to April but during this period many members play indoor bowls at a number of different venues, including Lewisham Indoor Bowling, Cyphers Indoor Bowling and Crystal Palace Indoor Bowling Club. The club house opens most Friday evenings during this period for drinks and games of crib. There are a number of social events during this period including the Annual Presentation Dinner. A group of members also regularly go walking in Kent and London.
